We will be focussing on the more restorative side of yoga, finding our softness and support - with some stronger classes looking into holding poses and building strength for the coming darker months.

Escape the City

The retreat includes:

Upto 10 hours of yoga

shared accomodation

3 veggie, delicious, organic meals a day (allergies etc can be catered for)

Location

 Ragmans Lane Farm is nestled in the Wye Valley on the edge of the Forest of Dean, in an area of oustanding natural beauty. It is a place to escape the pace of modern life, to sit with friends around the fire or next to the wood fired stove and enjoy the simple pleasures, beauty and peace of the natural world.

Retreat

This weekend will help provide us with the support we sometimes need for the winter times - surrdounded by the colours of the autumnal farm and the warmth of the fires. The retreat allows for you to focus on your yoga practise but also yourself and your needs : time for walks, reading, contemplating in the beautiful surroundings of the farm. With the added extras of  fires, hot tub and cake this weekend allows you to explore the change in the season. The yoga will be focusing much more on slowing down with some softer more restorative classes but also some stronger classes to build strength in mind and body. The combination of classes can really help develop your practise - teaching us how to switch on and off our muscles and minds!

Yoga

There will be upto 10 hours of yoga over the weekend, classes will be mixed level. Classes will vary from purely restorative to help aid deep relaxation and connection with releasing the muscles ranging to slightly fast pace classes with a much more ashtanga, flowing pace to it and slower more focussed trained eye on smoe specific poses. No class is mandatory so if you want to leave class a bit early or skip one to have a massage then feel free, this weekend is for you after all.

Food

The lovely Eve Vergano, Bread and Roses, will be feeding us with organic, vegetarian delights throughout the weekend. Fruit and veg supplied by Briggs Farm, Ragmans Lane Farm and dairy from Five Pennies. Please let us know about any dietary requirement when booking.

The People

Sophie – has been teaching for over 7 years now, building on from her training as a massage therapist aswell as her own practise informing the classes. She teachers hatha, combined with some flow from her new focus in higher energy classes like vinyasa. Alongside this her thirst for anatomy, the body and it's functionality and support feeds into classes.

Eve - Beautifully presented, equally delicious food made from locally sourced organic fruit and veg, above and beyond your average veggie food.     

Louisa- MTI trained, works with physical, emotional and mental aspects of being. Her warm and effective touch will help release tension along side the strong body focus in the yoga.

Please Bring

Warm comfy clothes

swimming costume for the hottub

Bedding and a towel (sleeping bag or duvet - pillow and think blanket provided)

Slipper socks or indoor shoes for inside the bunkhouse

Any board games or entertainment

This is not an alcohol free zone, so please bring any tipples you desire, but lets keep it in moderation

The Cost

£235 early bird fees (pay before 15th August )

£255 thereafter

50% must be paid as a deposit and then full payment to be received within 4 weeks of the retreat.

 Terms and Conditions

It is the customer’s responsibility to check the reservation and ensure that the particulars contained therein are correct. When booking there will be a 50% deposit incurred whether you pay deposit or full price. In the event of cancellation by the customer, regardless of the circumstances, the following refund fees, minus the deposit, apply. The deposit is non-refundable. The balance due shall be paid by the customer no less than 4 weeks prior to the date of the retreat. Bookings within the last 4 weeks must be paid in full at time of booking

Returning to Ragmans always brings me a strong element of ease and excitement! Everytime I arrive I know I am in for a great weekend - and hopefully the retreatees feel so too. We will be focussing on bringing energy back into the body, starting from the feet up. Some hatha classes mixed with some hatha flow/vinyasa classes - looking at some inversions and the strength we will have built up over the weekend.

Come and join us at Matter Wholefoods for an afternoon of treating the nervous system. As the winter drags on (not long to go now until Spring!) we need some focus and strength. Sophie and Lucy will be leading this afternoon of nurturing down time – allow time for movement, strength and softness. Bring layers for the slower parts of the class to feel cosy and supported.

Flow at your level and your mood for that day - listening to what your body needs.

Sophie will bring a flowing class to combine with the sound. We will work with the breath to begin to focus on slowing down and getting into our bodies and out of our busy minds. We will then build up to some slow movement, flowing a little faster to get the blood flowing and warm the muscles, ending with some longer held poses to give time for those muscles to ease into deeper focus and inward looking – as well as time to absorb the sound surrounding us.

 

The sound bath works on the level of vibrations - sound vibrations connect with our mind and bodies in different ways at different times'. Allowing time within the movement and during relaxation to absorb the effects of working internally and externally with sound immersing yourself fully. Sound baths can help alleviate stress as well as working on a deeper level of vibrations affecting you on a cellular level. Look at the effect sound waves has on water, it's like internally massaging the inside of the body, helping you feel more connected with yourself.

Come with your partner, friend or family member to this 2 hour workshop with Sophie. We will work in pairs looking at how working with both yoga and massage can help support yourself and your partner. Learn how to be more confident with massage, looking at different techniques of how to apply pressure to help relieve tension and pay respect to your bodies.

We will start the session with breathwork and a yoga practice to connect with our mind, body and breath, enabling a deep focus on the energy we need for ourselves and our partner. We will break up into our pairs for partner yoga using each other to deepen into certain poses.

The second half of the workshop will be about different ways of massaging- applying pressure and helping release tension be it physical or emotional, allowing time and space for support of you and your partners needs. We will use oils and lavender during the massage.

Spend this Saturday giving yourself and a loved one a treat - leave relaxed and knowing a little more of how to relax each other.

Deep Restoration and Relaxation

In this nurturing workshop, we will be focusing on settling into forward folds, closing in to the more introspective poses, allowing time for inward looking.

We will work with partners and with many lovely supported restorative poses (cushions galore!) to allow you to deepen your postures through support and learn how to use physical pressure to relax further into it.

We will explore the effect of touch on the body and the nervous system - learning techniques to help feel more confident when massaging friends and partners but also to be open in receiving massage. Learning to understand the importance of using breath to aid the parasympathetic nervous system to kick in and help restore our systems.

Bring a friend as you will be working in partners, but you are also welcome to come alone as we will pair you up appropriately!

Expect a cosy Saturday afternoon, moving into deep supported yoga poses and be rewarded by massage throughout. We will be working with oil and lavender essence, so prepare to truly be nurtured and relaxed this winter's afternoon!

Massage & Yoga focus: back, neck and shoulders

The back, neck and shoulders are the most common areas of tension for most people. We will be working on the muscles of the shoulder girdle and opening up the chest to release the shoulders and back in order to create more space for our expansive breath. We will explore different techniques and benefit of holds, deep and soft pressure massage on these areas.

This workshop is part of our Yoga & Massage Focus series with Sophie. Each session explores the area of the body through breathwork and yoga, deepening their focus with the massage in the 2nd half. The focus areas of each workshop looks at the way in which you can affect the whole body through working on just one area. By bringing into focus the holistic nature of relaxation, we stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system which allow our systems to restore and hence our mind and muscles to relax.

This 2 hours workshop is £20.

Nurture & Restore - Massage & Yoga Workshop

 Take time to focus on supporting our body while supporting others.

We will spend 1 hour and a half working on releasing tensions through bodywork – using partner yoga and breath work to deepen our yoga practise seeing the effects of soft pressure within poses. While looking at how to keep strong in your daily posture and therefore when massaging.

Then going onto earning techniques to help you feel more confident with massage, providing space and support for friends and family through soft tissue release. In turn learning how to receive massages – the art of letting go and give over to releasing the muscles and stress.

Lavender eye bags and bolster will be used to help soften the body with a true relaxation at the end to bring all that focus back together.

By bringing into focus the holistic nature of relaxation, we stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system which allow our systems to restore and hence our mind and muscles to relax.

This workshop is £18.

Massage & Yoga focus : Head and Hands

Give your overworked heads and hands a well deserved rest. They work so hard together and don't always get the respect they deserve!

Join Sophie for this workshop which aims to release tension in the temples and jaw to release the muscles that are tense from stress. We will work down the arms and into release of tension in the wrists, palms and fingers.

Yoga & Massage Workshop

Create a stronger bond between you and your body and learn how to work safely with your body, using massage in helping others release muscle tension and relax.

This workshop will start with breathing techniques, bringing focus to your body, mind and breath and how they work together. We will then limber up with a yoga practice, putting focus on your inner strength and calm.

Breaking down into pairs, we will enjoy some simple partner yoga, using our bodies to apply gentle pressure on our partners to deepen the poses. We will continue in these pairings to use knowledge from the first three parts of the workshop to learn how to massage others.

Wear comfortable clothing, and be prepared to learn, deepen your understanding of the body and leave completely relaxed.
